About Sundown M Ranch
From 1966 to 1968 a group of Yakima businessmen began a plan to develop a residential center for the intensive treatment of alcoholism. Many alcoholics were in desperate need of life-saving treatment, and hospitals had closed their doors to suffering alcoholics and refused treatment to even those who were in life-threatening physical trauma. On March 4th, 1968, Sundown M Ranch established itself as the state's first non-medical intensive residential alcoholism treatment program. Located in an abandoned boarding school in White Swan, the original lease was one dollar a year. In the first 12-months of operation at White Swan, the Ranch treated 102 patients.
In the intervening years, Sundown M Ranch added facilities for women, created an inpatient family program, a chemical dependency program, intensive outpatient program and constructed a new facility at the mouth of the Yakima River Canyon. A relapse group was added to outpatient services and a Title-IV Learning Center, which is an adolescent day treatment program in the Selah School district, was established.
Nationally recognized for its quality programs and professional caregivers, Sundown M Ranch is guided by its motto, “The Patient is the Reason We are Here.” Even with a 45 year record of successful innovative treatment, Sundown M Ranch remains among the most affordable alcohol and drug treatment centers in the country. Coming up on Sundown's 45th anniversary, approximately 120,000 adults, youth, and family members have been treated by Sundown.

Congratulations are in order for Liz Boelter, Youth Counselor in the adolescent facility. Liz recently achieved her Masters Degree. We all know the kind of commitment and hard work this requires while working full time. Congratulations, keep up the excellent work.

My husband was a patient at your facility. He enjoyed eight years of sobriety before he passed away. He got to witness the birth of his twin granddaughters and he also got to go on a fishing trip to Alaska with his oldest daughter. So for these things, I am so very grateful. Thank you very much for your life saving efforts. Also you made an exception for me and both of our daughters to come to the patients last day of treatment and for that experience I'll be forever appreciative. I think his time there saved his life and my sanity. Living life like we did was very difficult and it was wonderful having what time we did while he was sober. Thanks for everything and God bless you all.
